FUNDRAISING REQUEST FOR BUILDING REPAIRS - JUNE 2010

Dear Friends and Neighbors in the Brookline Community,

The Latvian Lutheran Church has discovered that this spring's record rains exposed numerous leaks.  While looking for the roof leaks, we discovered more serious deteriorating conditions in the parish hall that cannot be ignored.  The building committee has estimated that the necessary work to repair and maintain the building will cost over $100,000 over the next two years.  It's critical that repairs are made before more damage is done.  The church is a historic building, and the appearance of our property affects the entire neighborhood.

View photos of the necessary repairs.

Roof: There are portions of the roof that must be replaced and others can be patched.  The wooden mansard at the roof level is rotting and needs to be totally replaced.

Windows: Most of the window frames, which are at least 25 years old, are rotting and need to be replaced.  These leaks caused damage inside the building.

Painting: The seeping water keeps the clapboards wet and the painted clapboards peel.  After the mansard and windows are replaced, we need to repaint the entire building.

We are therefore seeking donations in any amount from our congregation, the Latvian community in the Greater Boston area, and from our friends and neighbors in the High Street Hill Association.  All donations are 100% tax-deductible. We are a non-profit organization registered with the Internal Revenue Service. Checks should be written to "Latvian Lutheran Church of Boston" and mailed to 58 Irving Street, Brookline, MA 02445.  Please indicate on the check that the donation is for the "Building Repair Fund."

KILIMANJARO FUNDRAISING CLIMB - JULY 2010

"TO AFRICA'S ROOF TO REPAIR OUR ROOF!"

Support the climb by making a pledge.

To kick-off the efforts to raise the necessary $100,000+ for the building repairs, the Kubulins family from the congregation will be flying to Africa on July 16, 2010 to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain on the continent at 19,340 feet.  This will be no holiday because the majority of the climb is a high altitude test to climbers both physically and mentally.  Each year only 60% of climbers succeed in reaching the summit.

You can sponsor Egons Kubulins (finance committee chair) or Dagnija Kubulins (ladies' committee chair) in their climb up the summit by pledging a certain amount per each 100 feet climbed.

Please contact the Kubulins family (ekubulins@comcast.net or 781-749-4493) to indicate (1) which climber you are supporting (Egons or Dagnija); (2) whether you believe the climber will reach the top (Yes/No) and (3) the amount of your pledge (either $ per 100 feet or flat amount).  For example, a pledge of $1.00/100 feet would come to $194.00 if the climber reaches the top; a pledge of $0.25/100 feet would come to $48.

The Kubulins family will send you a confirmation of your pledge.  They will also automatically buy you a ticket for the lottery that will be held in September, when they will give a slide presentation and talk about their trip.  You may win a piece of Africa!

All donations for the climb should be written out to the "Latvian Lutheran Church of Boston" and mailed to the address given above.  Please indicate that the donation is for the "Kilimanjaro Fundraising Drive."  The funds raised through this climb will be used 100% for building renovation and are fully tax-deductible.
